Tesla Redesigns Model S Car Seat Anchor Covers [PIC]
Tesla’s Model S and X units with HW4 have begun delivering and being shown in showrooms this week, and one look at the new Model S in San Francisco, California shows a few design refreshes.
@The Kilowatts shared footage of the new Model S from a Tesla showroom in San Francisco, showing that the automaker has redesigned the rear restraint mount access door for installing child car seats.
The post shows side-by-side footage of the old rear restraints next to the new ones. While the old ones flipped upward to reveal the rear restraints, the new ones slide back and out of the way. Some users in the thread also say the new design could be a game-changer for parents.
With most car seats using LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) in the U.S. (or called ISOFIX in Europe and LUAS in Canada), having the flap flip up makes it get in the way of the seats. LATCH works by having rectangular shaped inserts that push into the car’s anchors and hook tight.
One of the smaller difference we noticed between the newest Model S and the earlier models is the design of the rear restraint mount access door. The older version of the door flipped up (black) while the new version rotates out of the way (white). pic.twitter.com/ZrsNm4dAyt

Additionally, The Kilowatts point out in the thread that the frunk looks different too, with some in the thread saying that it looks smaller than in past Model S units.
The thread also includes a repost of The Kilowatts’ sample clips from the Model S HW4 dashcam posted earlier on Monday, including the backup camera which the account says is now “sharper with better color accuracy.”
In recent weeks, Tesla began dropping the price of inventory Model S and X units with HW3 by up to $10,000 to prepare for the production of the new HW4 models.
