Tesla Becomes One of the Biggest Tenants in San Antonio with New Lease
According to a report from MySA, Tesla has become one of the largest tenants in all of San Antonio, Texas, after signing a lease for a 439,809-square-foot industrial park space at Foster Ridge 2, located at 7015 Lancer Blvd. on the Far Eastside.
Dallas-based real estate company CBRE said in a separate report that Tesla accounted for the largest positive space absorption in the region between July and September of this year.
Tesla’s lease for the massive property had apparently been finalized by July. At the time, Indiana-based property developer Becknell Industrial said the site was leased by “a premiere automotive and clean energy company.”
Tesla has been expanding its presence in Texas ever since the company moved its headquarters to Austin, which is also home to one of its Gigafactories, last year. Company CEO Elon Musk, meanwhile, had already moved to Texas back in 2020.
Back in March, the electric automaker filed plans with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to turn an old car dealership near the San Antonio airport into a $1.9 million sales and service center.
Tesla is also planning a $1.5 million showroom in Austin as well as a $6.5 million repair center at Laureate Drive and Clarke Drive, just west of I-10, on the Northwest Side of San Antonio.
There’s no word yet on Tesla’s plans for the newly-leased 439,809 sq. ft. space in San Antonio. Tesla isn’t the only one of Musk’s companies looking to put down roots in Texas, though.
SpaceX reportedly filed plans for an even larger 521,000 sq. ft. “shell building” near Austin in September, while The Boring Company is eyeing a contract to build a loop of passenger tunnels between downtown San Antonio and the San Antonio International Airport.
