Hertz Employees Spotted Charging Tesla Fleet at Superchargers
Employees of American car rental company Hertz have reportedly been spotted charging a fleet of rental Tesla electric vehicles (EVs) deployed to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at the nearby 250kW Supercharger station in Hawthorne, California (via @klwtts).
Apparently this is happening daily with many sightings by @ILuvAmp last week and @Hertz occasionally bringing a van to shuttle employees.@TeslaCharging how much would it cost to get them their own Superchargers? pic.twitter.com/kPbwDPyMn3

Back in October, Hertz agreed to buy 100,000 EVs from Tesla by the end of 2022 in a deal worth $4.2 billion USD. The massive order will go towards the Florida-based car rental giant’s ambition to create the largest EV rental fleet in North America.
However, as Hertz’s Tesla fleet grows, so will the company’s Supercharging needs. Employees have been spotted charging the company’s Teslas at local Superchargers daily, with Hertz occasionally having to go as far as to shuttle employees to and from the Supercharger installation in vans.
In a follow-up tweet, The Kilowatts ask @TeslaCharging how much it would cost to build dedicated Superchargers for the rental company and its employees.
Hertz started renting out Tesla Model 3s to customers back in November and is even offering extended free Supercharging to rentals through March 1.
The company reported a “very strong early demand for Teslas” as rentals launched, and customers can even rent a Tesla from the company to drive on Uber.
