Tesla Fixing Heat Pump Issue is ‘High Priority’ Says Elon Musk
Some Tesla customers in extremely cold climates continue to deal with issues related to no heat and climate controls not working, related to newer Model 3 and Model Y vehicles with heat pumps.
While two recent software updates were supposedly set to address the issue, Tesla has offered some customers heat pump system replacements to fix the problem.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded on Saturday, when asked about the issue, saying, “fixing this is a high priority.”
Previously, Musk acknowledged a Twitter thread on the heat pump issue, related to the front air intake flap freezing open, thus allowing cold air to hit the system and that stops the heat pump from working properly when driving on the highway.
Great explanation!

On Saturday, developer @greentheonly said some Model Y owners in Russia were reportedly dealing with failing heat pumps as well, according to information shared on Facebook:
Looks like Model Y heat pumps are seizing en-masse in Russia as well. This is how it looks like:

The issue without heat is a major concern, sparking investigations from the NHTSA and Transport Canada.
Let’s hope Tesla fixes this issue soon, as for some on winter road trips with young families, losing heat can be a serious problem, in extreme cold.
Update: Musk says a software update is rolling out now to “recalibrate heat pump expansion valve”:
