The Tesla Model Y debuted in China this year and sold out immediately, with the automaker’s very first deliveries in China having taken place in January.
Earlier this year, Tesla increased the price of the Model Y Performance, which now costs a starting price of 387,900 RMB ($60,192.72 USD), following another price increase that took place in March.
Still, a series of price increases didn’t stop Tesla’s record-breaking registration numbers in China in September, nor did it stop the Model Y from causing backups at registration centers in cities across China within the same month.
Earlier this month, Tesla also updated its entry-level Model Y variant to include longer range with slower overall acceleration.
