Nightpeak Energy Brings 300 MW Tesla Megapack Site Online in Texas

Nightpeak Energy has completed a 300 MW battery storage project in Southeast Texas using Tesla Megapack systems, adding more capacity to the state’s electricity grid as demand continues to grow.
The company announced on October 13 that its Bocanova 2 project in Brazoria County, near Houston, reached commercial operation on September 17, 2026. The new 150 MW facility doubles the site’s total capacity to 300 MW, following the launch of the first phase in August 2025.
Bocanova 2 uses Tesla Megapack 2 XL battery storage systems and has a two-hour discharge duration. That means the new phase can deliver up to 150 MW of electricity for two hours, providing approximately 300 MWh of energy storage capacity. Combined with the first phase, the site gives Texas another large-scale resource to help balance electricity supply and demand.
The project operates within ERCOT, the electricity market serving most of Texas. Battery storage facilities can charge when electricity is available and discharge during periods of higher demand, helping utilities manage fluctuations in the grid.
Nightpeak said Bocanova 2 is backed by a long-term offtake agreement with an investment-grade counterparty. Financing included a tax equity bridge loan and construction-to-term loan from MUFG Bank, while U.S. Bank provided traditional tax equity financing.
“We’re seeing large loads come to the grid at a pace and scale that is fundamentally changing how the power sector plans for new demand,” said Paris Hays, Co-founder and CEO/CDO of Nightpeak Energy.
The Texas project adds to Tesla’s growing energy storage business. Earlier this week, Taiwanese energy company Apollo Power ordered 260 Tesla Megapacks, highlighting continued international demand for the company’s utility-scale batteries.
Tesla has also been expanding its manufacturing operations. The company began shipping Megapacks using American-made LFP battery cells earlier this year, with production involving its facilities in Nevada and California.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s Shanghai Megafactory more than doubled output during its first full year of operation in 2025, producing over 2,000 Megapack systems.
Nightpeak Energy was founded in 2022 and has developed or acquired a portfolio exceeding 1 GW of operating and de-risked capacity, including gas-fired generation, battery storage and powered land development. The company is a portfolio investment of Energy Spectrum Partners VIII, a Dallas-based private equity fund, and is continuing to develop additional power generation projects across the United States.
