Tesla Accelerates Robotaxi Production: Over 70 Cybercabs Seen at Giga Texas

Tesla appears to be accelerating its robotaxi ambitions as a record number of Cybercabs were spotted at the Giga Texas factory in Austin. Aerial footage from today and photos show over 70 of the steering-wheel-free vehicles staged in outbound lots, marking the largest gathering of the specialized EVs to date.

Joe Tegtmeyer, a popular drone pilot who tracks progress at the Austin site, captured the robotaxis spread across three different parking areas. Some units were also seen driving around the facility, suggesting active testing is underway.

The sudden increase in sightings follows a steady climb in production. Only 40 units were observed on May 8, indicating that Tesla is successfully scaling its manufacturing process. The company originally launched pilot production in February 2026 and moved into volume manufacturing in April.

The growing fleet is expected to support unsupervised ride-hailing tests in the Austin area. While the 70-unit milestone is significant, the overall production rate for the Cybercab remains modest as Tesla continues to prioritize Cybertruck deliveries and navigates the regulatory hurdles required for fully autonomous transport.

Observers also noted a high volume of vehicles in the outbound lots as Tesla prepares for a potential uptick in deliveries next month. Despite the focus on the Cybercab, the factory is simultaneously working to maintain the ramp-up of the $59,000 Cybertruck variant.

For now, the sight of dozens of gold-coloured robotaxis ready for transport suggests that Tesla is moving closer to making its vision of a dedicated autonomous fleet a reality.
