Tesla Reschedules Model S/X Signature Edition Delivery Event for Next Week
Tesla has issued new invitations for its rescheduled Model S and Model X Signature Edition delivery event after a sudden postponement earlier this month.
According to invites shared online, the event will now take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Tesla factory in Fremont, California. The news follows a period of frustration for many owners, including Brooks Weisblat of DragTimes, who reported significant travel losses after the original May 12 date was scrapped with only days’ notice.
This ultra-limited Signature Edition run marks the end of an era for Tesla’s flagship vehicles as the company prepares to repurpose its Fremont production lines for Optimus robot manufacturing. The series is capped at just 350 units globally, with 250 Model S units and 100 Model X units in a six-seat configuration.
These final flagships are based on the 1,020-horsepower Plaid powertrain. Each vehicle features exclusive Garnet Red paint, gold Tesla badging, and gold Plaid accents. Inside, the cabins are finished in white Alcantara with gold piping and include numbered dashboard plates to denote their place in the production sequence.
Priced at $159,420 USD, these collector’s items command a $35,000 premium over standard Plaid inventory. That price includes the Luxe Package, which provides Full Self-Driving Supervised, free lifetime Supercharging, and premium connectivity. The Model S variant is fitted with 21-inch Velarium wheels and carbon ceramic brakes with gold calipers, while the Model X features 22-inch Machina wheels.
To maintain market exclusivity, buyers must sign a one-year no-resale agreement that gives Tesla the right of first refusal if the owner chooses to sell.
Customers must register online to confirm their attendance for the new May 20 date. Upon registration, guests will receive an email with a unique QR code ticket required to enter the Fremont facility for the final delivery festivities.
Now, possible reasons for the delay? Tesla CEO Elon Musk is heading on a trip to China with a tech delegation invited by President Donald Trump, set to take place on May 14. It’s possible with the tight turnaround, Musk would not be able to be in both places at the same time given the time change.
