Tesla has officially reached the Start of Production phase for its highly anticipated Cybercab, with the very first finished units appearing at Giga Texas. These production vehicles feature a striking glossy gold finish that marks a significant departure from the matte-wrapped engineering prototypes seen during the initial unveiling.

The milestone was highlighted by @TechOperator, who shared numerous photos of the vehicle identified as VIN Zero (he was on a tour at Giga Texas). This specific car represents the first official unit built on the assembly line in Austin. Aerial drone photographer Joe Tegtmeyer also captured images of several glossy units sitting in the outbound lot, noting how vibrant the metallic surface appears when catching the direct Texas sunlight.

While the finish is highly reflective, Tegtmeyer clarified that these vehicles do not actually use traditional paint. This suggests that Tesla is likely employing a specialized coating or a unique material process to achieve the glossy gold look, similar to the unconventional manufacturing approach used for the Cybertruck’s stainless steel body.

Close-up observations of these production-ready models have revealed several key design details. A dedicated charging port is now visible on the left-hand side of the rear bumper. Furthermore, the fit and finish of the body panels appear much more refined than earlier test mules, suggesting the manufacturing line is maturing quickly.

As Tesla scales up production at Giga Texas, the focus will continue to shift toward the software and regulatory requirements needed for its autonomous ride-hailing network. The physical presence of VIN Zero and other glossy units in the outbound lot confirms that the Cybercab is no longer just a concept but is actively moving toward its role as a functional part of the Tesla fleet.
