SpaceX Kicks Off $750 Million Funding Round, Valuation Now at $137 Billion

SpaceX is raising $750 million USD as part of a new round of investment that puts the private company’s valuation at a whopping $137 billion — reports CNBC.

The news comes just a couple of months after SpaceX CEO Elon Musk denied reports of the company planning to raise funds at a valuation of over $150 billion. In December, the reusable rocketry and space transportation giant reportedly allowed insiders to sell at $77 per share, which would put the valuation near $140 billion.

According to an email sent to prospective SpaceX investors, the latest round of funding will likely be led by Andreessen Horowitz (a.k.a a16z).

SpaceX raised over $2 billion in funding over the course of 2022. This included an equity round in May that valued the company at over $125 billion, as well as a $250 million round in July. In February of last year, SpaceX also saw its first private common stock split, breaking shares 10-for-1.

Despite SpaceX’s flagship Starship program being delayed time and again, the company achieved several milestones in 2022. SpaceX managed a total of 61 orbital launches in the year — that’s an average of more than one launch per week.

Starlink, the company’s high-speed satellite internet service, crossed one million active subscribers across the globe as it achieved global coverage.

SpaceX kicked off 2022 with its first launch of the year earlier today, incidentally also marking the company’s 200th launch overall.
