Tesla May Announce Mexico Gigafactory This Week, Says Report
Following reports last week that said Tesla would be announcing a factory in Mexico in early 2023, a new story says the automaker could share news of the new Gigafactory this week.
Tesla may announce the construction of a Gigafactory in Mexico’s Nuevo León as soon as Friday, according to a report from local outlet Reforma detailed by Reuters on Monday.
The report says that Tesla plans to invest between $800 million and $1 billion initially, with the total long-term investment potentially reaching as much as $10 billion, according to sources who spoke with Reforma.

Another report from Bloomberg surfaced over the weekend corroborating news that Tesla had planned to announce the Mexican Gigafactory sooner than initially thought.
Musk visited Nuevo León in October and two sources claimed that Tesla was seriously considering a major investment in the border state. In July, one U.S.-Mexico border checkpoint also gained an exclusive lane for Tesla suppliers.
The Tesla CEO also said during this year’s annual shareholder meeting in August that Tesla may announce a new Gigafactory location by the end of this year.
Gigafactories in Berlin and Texas recently hit production milestones of 3,000 Model Y vehicles built in one week, on pace with the expected annual guidance of 250,000 cars per year, as per Tesla’s Q3 earnings report.
