Many Tesla owners have waited a long time for the popular gaming platform Steam to become available in their vehicles, and now that it is available in the Model S and Model X with a recent update, Tesla is launching a new storage device for the vehicles.

Tesla has added a one-terabyte solid-state drive to its online store, set to go on sale in February 2023 for $350.

The external hard drive was spotted just after Tesla launched a beta for Steam gaming for the Model S and X this week, included in this year’s holiday software update. According to the product description on Tesla’s store, the drive is compatible with Steam.

The solid-state drive package includes the hard drive and a USB-A female to USB-C male adapter cable for plugging the hard drive into your car, computers or other devices. This could prove invaluable for users who want to play a larger game in their Tesla — they could simply transfer the game files from a computer to the SSD and plug it into the vehicle instead of waiting around for it to download on their car via Wi-Fi.

The product description also says it can be used for data needs ranging from Tesla Arcade games to Dashcam footage.

Tesla also says the solid-state drive features an automotive-grade housing that can withstand extreme cabin temperatures, as well as shocks and vibrations from driving.

The storage drive is also compatible with all Tesla vehicles and does not necessarily have to be used with Steam.

While the Steam Beta isn’t available for the Model 3 and Model Y as of yet, it’s expected to expand to the company’s flagship sedan and SUV in the long term.
