Tesla Model Y Deliveries Begin in Taiwan

The first Tesla Model Y units are being delivered in Taiwan this week, as reported by the publication DDCar on Monday.

Tesla’s Model Y Long-Range (LR) and Performance trims are now available in Taiwan, joining the Model 3 as another vehicle available from Elon Musk’s company.

The vehicle is currently only available in Taiwan with black and white paint, and with only the Long Range and Performance trims.

Tesla launched Model Y reservations in Taiwan in September, with deliveries coming from the automaker’s Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg.

In October, a Tesla Model Y was spotted in Taiwan ahead of plans for delivery this month.

Rumors say that Tesla’s Model Y deliveries in Taiwan could reach 4,000 to 5,000 units in December alone, which would have it beating out its own single-month sales record in the country and sales of some gas cars.

Tesla stopped taking Model 3 orders in Taiwan last month, ceasing delivery of all three of the vehicle’s available trims. As of writing, you can only view existing inventory available for purchase.

Model 3 vehicles for Taiwan are produced at Tesla’s Fremont, California factory, unlike the Model Y. Complicated and tense geopolitics have resulted in Tesla shipping Model Y from Giga Berlin to Taiwan, instead of from Giga Shanghai on China’s mainland.

Tesla has opened 58 Supercharger stations in Taiwan this year, increasing the total number in the country to 85. Additionally, Tesla opened a new store, service and delivery center in Tainan City in August.
