Tesla customers in Taiwan may be receiving their copies of the Model Y electric SUV in the coming weeks, as one reservation holder just spotted one of the vehicles in the country.

The first sighting of a German-built Tesla Model Y was spotted by @Michael Hsu (Tesla Owners Taiwan founder) in Taiwan this week.

The sighting took place outside of a Tesla Service location in Taipei, located at the city’s Neihu Center.

Hsu notes that the electric vehicle (EV) is vision-based, confirmed by an email he received stating the fact and requesting his approval on the construction. He shared a screenshot of this Model Y order, showing the VIN with ‘XP7’ designation, indicating it’s from Giga Berlin.

Hsu says the first Model Y deliveries in Taiwan are slated to start on December 5, 2022. He was notified for his order and booked his delivery already. He ordered his Model Y back in late September when Tesla launched orders for the compact crossover SUV for Taiwan. The addition of the Model Y will join a Model S, Model 3 and Model X in Hsu’s garage.

With many users asking about why the EV didn’t come from either Tesla’s Fremont, California or its Gigafactory Shanghai, Hsu noted that geopolitical factors prevented the automaker from producing the SUV at its plant in China.

As for Fremont, Hsu pointed out that Tesla will be producing as many units as possible with both Giga Texas and Fremont in order to capitalize on the incoming U.S. federal tax rebate the SUV is set to become eligible for in the new year.

The news comes after Tesla launched Model Y reservations in Taiwan earlier this month, with expectations that the vehicle would come from Tesla’s Gigafactory Berlin, which opened earlier this year.
