Tesla Sales Jump 18% in New South Wales in August

Tesla sales in Australia’s most progressive state for electric vehicle (EV) adoption, New South Wales, jumped 18.1% in August as the automaker started delivering the long-anticipated Model Y in the country — reports The Driven.
The EV pioneer delivered a total of 1,593 new cars in NSW last month, expanding the total number of Tesla EVs in the state by 18.1% to 10,394.
Tesla delivered more vehicles in NSW during August than in the entire first quarter of this year. Part of that was thanks to the Model Y finally hitting Australia’s shores. Tesla started taking orders for the Model Y in Australia back in June, and the first delivery-bound units arrived in the country in early August.
According to new data, listings for used Tesla EVs in Australia have also reached an all-time high since the Model Y’s launch. Almost 500 Tesla EVs are currently available on the used EV market across Australia, up 400% from before.
NSW is Australia’s leading state for EV uptake. The state launched a generous EV subsidy scheme last year, and it has also waived stamp duty for EVs with a sticker price of up to $78,000.
Tesla’s Model 3 was the best-selling EV across Australia during Q1, capturing 65% of the market. With the Model Y now entering the fray as well, Tesla believes its sales volume in Australia could double by the end of this year.
