Tesla Model Y RWD Wait Times in China Drop to 1 to 4 Weeks
After recently upgrading its production lines at its Gigafactory Shanghai, U.S. electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla has seen delivery wait times decrease significantly on one variant of its Model Y SUVs.
Tesla reduced delivery wait times on its base-level, rear-wheel-drive Model Y in China to just one to four weeks, as reported by Reuters on Wednesday.
The change marks the second time Tesla reduced Model Y wait times in China in the past few weeks. Tesla previously slashed the base-level Model Y’s delivery estimates to four to eight weeks after the initial ramp-up period of the upgraded production lines.
Other Model Y variants and Model 3 units still have wait times ranging from 12 to 20 weeks from the time of order.

A report in July estimated that the production upgrade at Giga Shanghai could boost production by as much as 30 percent. Many expect the upgrade to help Tesla produce a million cars annually at Giga Shanghai.
Just a few weeks ago, Tesla surpassed its millionth cumulative car built at its Shanghai factory.
Earlier this month, a report claimed that Tesla plans to launch a new Model 3 in China with a lower price and higher range. The report said the electric sedan would get a range increase of roughly 10 percent.
