Tesla’s Giga Shanghai Production to Reach Pre-Lockdown Levels by Tuesday: Report

Following strict COVID-19 lockdowns implemented by China, Tesla’s factory in Shanghai is finally getting back in the swing of things with pre-lockdown levels of production.
Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai is planning to ramp up production output levels to pre-lockdown levels on Tuesday, set to more than double production to around 2,600 vehicle units per day, according to a memo shared by Reuters.
The Shanghai factory built around 1,000 units on Monday, as detailed in the memo, and Tesla is looking to bring its output up to around 16,000 units this week.
Tesla began exporting its first cars from Giga Shanghai after the shutdown on May 11.

The ramp-up of Tesla’s Giga Shanghai factory has been slow and gradual, with the news coming after the automaker initially planned to reach full production by May 16.
In March, Tesla sold 65,754 vehicles from its Gigafactory Shanghai facility, before that number dropped off to just 1,512 in April before the automaker could reopen its “closed-loop” production system.
Since resuming production, Tesla has produced 26,000 vehicles at the Shanghai factory, though it was only running at about 45 percent capacity as of last week.
Reports earlier this month showed that Tesla planned to resume two shifts per day at Giga Shanghai by the month’s end.
