Tesla Sells Nearly 67,000 Cars in China for March, Up 86% Year-Over-Year
After Tesla increased the price of multiple of its vehicles in China, the company has managed to pull off record deliveries in the last month of Q1, as shown by new sales data in the country.
Tesla sold 65,814 Shanghai-built vehicles in March, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) and as reported by CNEVPost.
The strong sales numbers came in despite Tesla extending its production halt in China due to surging COVID-19 cases and the country’s COVID-zero restriction strategy.
The month represents Tesla’s second-best sales month and an 85.5 percent year-over-year increase, falling just behind the automaker’s December 2021 total of 70,847 vehicles.

In total, Tesla delivered 65,754 units in China that were built at its Gigafactory Shanghai.
Tesla only exported 60 vehicles in March, since the month falls into the end of the first quarter.
In the past, Tesla has said that its delivery cycles tend to begin with exports, with the automaker focusing on local deliveries near the end of each quarter.
While Tesla informed customers of the production halt in China via its mobile app earlier this month, the COVID-19 restrictions and subsequent production halt began on March 28.
Since then, Tesla has been forced to extend the production halt twice, with the automaker originally expecting to restart production within a week.
