Watch: How a Tesla Model Y is Made at Giga Berlin [VIDEO]
Newly surfaced drone footage from inside Tesla’s now-operational Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg takes us on the same journey a Model Y takes across the production line, from casting to the paint job (via Reddit).
The video is a recording of a television showing the process, that was on display during the recent Giga Berlin Model Y delivery event, that saw Elon Musk attend personally. The video was shot by Tesla and an impressive small drone pilot.
The new footage gives us a closer look inside Giga Berlin, while also showcasing some impressive drone piloting. Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is designed from the ground up by Tesla to maximize production and operate an efficient assembly line.
Tesla received conditional approval to begin commercial production at Giga Berlin earlier this month, with a full-fledged operating permit being awarded last week.
While replying to a tweet from Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives on Monday, Musk said that the localized production for Europe from Giga Berlin will make “a huge difference to capital efficiency” for Tesla.

At the Giga Berlin delivery event, Musk touted the facility’s opening as “another step in the direction of a sustainable future.”
The Model Y produced at Giga Berlin gains a new fleece-lined side trunk area.
What’s more, Giga Berlin going online will bolster Tesla’s global production capacity and also help the electric vehicle (EV) pioneer better compete in Europe (and especially Germany) by cutting down delivery times and vehicle pricing. The CEO of veteran German automaker Volkswagen admitted last year that Giga Berlin is bound to increase competition in Germany.
