General Motors (GM) has teased a number of new electric vehicles (EVs) this year, and a new trademark filing has fans wondering of the company is getting ready to unveil a new electric SUV.

GM has submitted an application to trademark the name “Electra” for Buick, expected to be an upcoming electric SUV, according to many on the Rivian Owners Forum (via Auto Blog).

While Buick shared a brief concept for the Buick Electra in 2020 in a promo video at the Shanghai Motor Show, there’s also no guarantee that the vehicle will be electric.

Still, GM’s strategy shift towards EVs would suggest otherwise, namely that an upcoming Buick Electra could easily be an EV in an SUV configuration for auto markets across the world – especially given GM’s multi-vehicle Ultium platform plans.

In October, GM also announced plans to double its annual revenues by 2030 with a major push towards EV manufacturing.

Earlier this month, GM subsidiary BrightDrop delivered the first of its EV600 electric delivery vans to FedEx, including just five units in a 500-unit order expected to be completed down the road.

BrightDrop also has a deal with Merchants Fleet for the sale of 5,400 EV600 units, one of the largest deals the company has made to date.
