62-Stall Tesla Supercharger in Santa Monica Still Waiting for Permit, Says Elon Musk

@Elon Musk said on Monday that Tesla is still waiting for permit approval for its upcoming Supercharger station in Santa Monica. The news came in response to one Tesla driver asking Musk for updates on Supercharger stations in LA, saying that he had to wait in a long line in Santa Monica each week.

Tesla is planning to build a 62-stall Supercharger station in Santa Monica, after the development project was approved by the Santa Monica City Council earlier this year.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk also announced that the upcoming Santa Monica Supercharger station would include a 1950s-style diner, though it’s unclear as of yet whether the City Council will allow this addition to take place – since the development of land for other commercial uses was among the council’s original concerns about the 62-stall Supercharger station.

The new Supercharger station is set to become one of Tesla’s largest in the world, falling behind Tesla’s Fresno County Supercharger station which is planned to have as many as 80 V3 Supercharger stalls.

Santa Monica also gained 16 V3 Supercharger stalls at a Chevron station earlier this year, as discovered on a commercial building permit outside the gas station.

Tesla also signed a $12 million lease in March for a new Santa Monica Service Center, located at the 1100 block of Colorado Avenue in the Southern California city.
