Tesla Model 3 Surpasses 1 Million in Cumulative Sales: Report
The Tesla Model 3 has surpassed a million total sales as of the end of the second quarter, with the electric sedan having reached 1,031,588 total deliveries worldwide at the time, according to CleanTechnica. As a result, the Tesla Model 3 has become the world’s first EV to pass a million total sales.
Tesla’s Model Y sales are trailing way behind, just passing 250,000 cumulative sales and with some expecting the vehicle to reach over 500,000 by the end of 2021.
In addition to the Model Y and Model 3, the California-based automaker has also been selling its Model S and X units at much lower volumes. Each of them is expected to surpass 200,000 deliveries during Q3 2021, amounting to a lot of total EVs on the road from Tesla.
“Note that these are not 100% official figures, since Tesla reports Model 3 and Model Y deliveries combined. However, official registration data for the Model 3 and Model Y from dozens of countries do help to inform my quarterly figures,” reports CleanTechnica.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk liked a tweet this morning that linked to the CleanTechnica story so it’s likely this number is indeed true.

The new milestone also comes at a time when the Tesla Model 3’s demand is very high, pushing back delivery times for the vehicle to at least September – with many customers expecting to receive their units even later.
On the topic of Model 3 milestones, the Tesla Model 3 set a new lap record earlier this month at the Laguna Seca Raceway in California.
Tesla was also named the world’s fastest-growing brand earlier this year, and there’s really no surprise why as it sweeps the globe with EVs.
