The extra costs of the Tesla Model S, when it does finally become available, are a partial result of the way Israel’s vehicle taxes work, which adds a 17 percent value-added tax, a 10 percent purchase tax, and an additional tax on luxury cars costing more than NIS 300,000 ($93048 USD).
In addition to the added taxes, Tesla has increased the sale price of the Model S by nearly 27 percent, with a recent increase upping the cost to customers in Israel by NIS 20,000 ($6,203 USD).
Tesla’s first Supercharger station was also built earlier this year, located in Tel Aviv. The company also has subsequent plans to build Supercharger stations in Haifa, Eilat, and Be-er Sheva.
