Tesla Hiring Managers For Legal and External Relations Teams in China

Reuters reported on Tuesday that Tesla China is hiring managers for both its external relations and its legal teams, according to a job listing on the company’s Wechat account. The news comes following a wave of public criticisms of Tesla over the company’s privacy practices and safety.

The job listings are located in multiple cities in China, including Shenzen, Shanghai and Beijing, according to the WeChat post.

Tesla also hired a former auto journalist from DongCheDi as a part of its China-based Public Relations team earlier this month, with many expecting the company to continue bolstering relations with the Chinese government as well as the public.

Earlier this year, Tesla’s vehicles were banned for use at certain government offices in China, in addition to the Chinese government prohibiting the use of Teslas by military personnel – both due to concerns with how Tesla plans to store and use the footage gained from its in-car cameras.

Tesla responded by establishing a local data storage site in China, to ease concerns about the use or sharing of the footage with the U.S. government and other parties based outside the country.

Just months after, a woman jumped on a Tesla Model 3 at Auto Shanghai to protest against faulty brakes in her Tesla, which allegedly almost killed her family. A few days later, Tesla released data from the crash, showing it had not been due to faulty brakes, firing back at the allegations.
