First Tesla Showroom Coming to Louisville, Kentucky
Tesla has filed plans with Louisville Metro Planning and Design Services for its first (electric) vehicle dealership in the state of Kentucky, located in Louisville’s East End — reports the Courier Journal.
According to the plans, the site Tesla is eyeing for its first dealership in the state is situated at 11701 Gateworth Way near Blankenbaker Parkway in Middletown.
The property is currently occupied by a Bluegrass Harley-Davidson dealership, which plans on moving to a new facility at Terra Crossing Boulevard near Old Henry Road sometime in the fall.
According to the filings, Tesla plans on installing new rooftop units at the property, as well as expanding the parking lot into the adjacent property at 11715 Gateworth Way. When all is said and done, the Tesla dealership will occupy approximately 4.5 acres and house 168 parking spaces.
Caitlin Bowling, a spokeswoman for the city, has said that most of Tesla’s applications have already gone through, the district development plan and variances included.
It looks like Tesla is still working on opening physical showrooms, despite recent reports of the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer shifting its retail strategy away from brick-and-mortar stores.
While Tesla reported a record half a million vehicle deliveries last year, the bulk of the EV pioneer’s business comes from online sales.
When the Kentucky dealership will open and how many employees will be stationed at the facility currently remains unknown. Tesla is also yet to officially comment on the matter or formally announce the location.
