GMC Hummer EV Dashboard Will Use Google’s Android OS

GMC’s Hummer Electric Vehicle is set for release in early 2023, and as the SUV and Tesla Cybertruck competitor nears full-scale production, some exciting new features have now come to light.

In an update Tuesday from the Google I/O 2021 conference, CNET Road Show reported that the GMC Hummer EV will feature Google’s Android Auto as its operating system (OS), as well as Epic Games’ Unreal Engine for advanced 3D graphics.

The Hummer EV will also include a 13.4-inch display, as well as a 12.3-inch instrument cluster bearing Google Maps, Google Assistant, Sirius XM satellite, and over-the-air (OTA) updates and Google Play app and game downloads, directly to a person’s dashboard.

GMC also released a Moab road testing teaser of the upcoming Hummer EV, showing some of its impressive offroad capabilities. Last year, GMC also released a Hummer EV prototype, which debuted some of the visual components of the Tesla Cybertruck rival.

Last year, a Consumer Reports assessment deemed GM’s Super Cruise advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) above Tesla’s Autopilot.

However, Tesla is currently closer to mainstream autonomous driving success having its Full Self-Driving (FSD) publicly-tested beta upgrade now available, despite an ongoing investigation from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
