Tesla Model Y Sales Surpass Both Chevy Bolt, Tesla Model X: Report

Global sales for the Tesla Model Y have surpassed those of both the Chevy Bolt and the Tesla Model X, according to new data compiled by EV Volumes.

The data arrives as the year’s second quarter comes to a close, capping off an impressive opening run for the new Tesla model. The Model Y, which only began production in January, is set to surpass many others if it stays on this track for the remainder of the year.

Perhaps even more impressive: According to Forbes, Tesla delivered a whopping 7,500 Model Y’s in June 2020, outpacing June sales for every other electric vehicle, with the exceptions of the Renault Zoe and the Tesla Model 3 which sold 10,553 and 35,854, respectively. While the Model Y’s track record is impressive thus far, it comes as no surprise to Elon Musk who was quoted by Business Insider earlier in the year saying he believed the Model Y would outsell Tesla Models S, X, and 3 combined.

Meanwhile, as production and sales of the Model Y continue to ramp up, the luxury Model 3 remains high on top of the list with 142,346 sales year-to-date. Additionally, the Renault Zoe has continued to perform well, especially in the European market, selling as many as 37,154 globally.

While the Model Y still has a ways to go if it is to surpass the Model 3 per Musk’s predictions, it’s certainly on track to do so. An earlier report this week claimed Tesla has started trial production of its Model Y RWD variants, which is expected to launch later this year, according to CEO Elon Musk.
