Tesla’s Manufacturing Quality Improvements Praised by Experts
Despite its major public profile and die hard fan base, Tesla receives a fair amount of criticism. While people may praise the company for its innovation within both modern electric vehicle transportation and green energy, people also raise concerns about some of the company’s manufacturing builds. However, in a new piece from The Detroit News, experts take note of some recent improvements that match Tesla’s production to the pace of its technological innovations.
As the piece posits from the start, some key issues have affected Tesla’s production over the years. “Under the microscope as the new kid on the block, its fit and finish issues have lagged its foreign and domestic peers.” However, the piece also uses the Model Y as a clear example of the company’s improvements on such issues.
Sandy Munro from Munro Live also shares some opinions on the recent improvements in Tesla’s engineering and manufacturing. As a long time engineer and Tesla enthusiast, Munro compared the Model Y to the Model 3 in a series of recent tear down videos. As he states, “It’s a well-designed car. It’s so much better than the Model 3 — no comparison in fit and finish. They are miles apart.”
While Tesla is making improvements, some initial orders of the new Tesla Model Y continue to be plagued with issues. Ryan Shaw on YouTube details a variety of fixes on his new Model Y which Tesla says it can’t fix or can only half fix. It definitely can be risky to be an early adopter of a new Tesla model, as previous Model 3 owners can attest to.
The Detroit News continues to demonstrate Tesla’s strides with the Model Y. Some favorable updates from Consumer Reports and positive reception of the vehicle’s heat pump attest to Tesla’s drive for constant improvement.
