Tesla Shanghai Wholesale Dips in October After Best Month of 2026

Tesla’s Giga Shanghai wholesaled 67,829 vehicles in October, according to preliminary figures released Tuesday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). That’s down 28.9% from September’s 95,366, which was the factory’s best month of 2026.

Compared with a year earlier, October was up about 10.3%. In October 2025, Tesla China moved 26,006 vehicles domestically and exported 35,491, according to CPCA data Tesla North reported at the time, for a combined 61,497.

The CPCA’s October flash report ranks Tesla China eighth among new energy vehicle (NEV) makers by wholesale volume. SAIC Passenger Car sat just above it at 76,479, while Xpeng followed at 50,237 and Xiaomi topped 50,000.

BYD led by a wide margin with 483,125 vehicles, followed by Geely at 213,165, Chery at 134,471, Changan at 122,422, Leapmotor at 103,021 and SAIC-GM-Wuling at 97,241.

October Dip Mirrors Last Year

October’s drop from September isn’t new for Shanghai. Last year, the factory went from 90,812 vehicles in September 2025 to 61,497 in October 2025, based on the CPCA figures in Tesla North‘s earlier reports.

With October in, Shanghai’s 2026 wholesale total stands at 810,889 vehicles, adding to the 743,060 it had shipped through the end of September.

Wholesale counts vehicles leaving the factory, whether they’re headed to Tesla stores in China or onto ships bound for other markets. The CPCA’s flash report doesn’t break out exports, the Model 3 and Model Y split, or how many six-seat Model Y L units were in the mix.

The association estimates China’s total NEV passenger car wholesale at 1.80 million in October, up 12% from a year earlier and 8% from September. It labels the numbers as preliminary data that includes estimates, and cautions that they may differ from final figures automakers release later.

Tesla hasn’t commented on the October result. The month followed a strong third quarter, when Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles worldwide. In China, Tesla is also offering ¥5,000 off certified used cars through November.

Giga Shanghai also supplies the Model 3s sold in Canada, so how many of October’s cars were exported is the number to watch when more detailed data comes out.
