Green NCAP’s life-cycle assessment of the Tesla Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive puts total greenhouse gas emissions at 95 g CO2-eq/km, the lowest life-cycle emissions figure the program has published so far and a new mark after Tesla’s Model 3 topped its 2022 assessment index.

Tesla Europe highlighted the result on Thursday, October 29, the same day Green NCAP’s press release and Model Y assessment page posted the number.

The Berlin-built single-motor Model Y scored a maximum five-star Sustainability Rating and 93% overall, with a perfect 10/10 in the Greenhouse Gases category. Green NCAP says Tesla submitted vehicle and battery manufacturing data for expert review instead of relying only on generic production assumptions, and that verified data is why the life-cycle GHG total cleared the 110 g CO2-eq/km threshold needed for full points in that section.

Real-world testing still mattered. The program recorded 15.2 kWh/100 km on a hot mixed on-road drive and 12.7 kWh/100 km on a short urban trip, praised regenerative braking and tire abrasion scores, and flagged strong cold-weather cabin heat-up with the heat pump. It also noted the car lacks bidirectional charging.

The result lands on Europe’s best-selling electric SUV as Giga Berlin keeps pushing Model Y output, including a recent 7,000-vehicle week, while Tesla sweetens European deals to get more FSD-ready Model Y and Model 3 stock onto the road.

Does a verified 95 g life-cycle score change how shoppers weigh the Model Y against other electric SUVs in Europe?
