Tesla Says FSD Improvements for Potholes and Navigation Are Coming

Tesla says improvements to Full Self-Driving (Supervised) for pothole avoidance and navigation are coming. Tesla engineer Phil Duan, whose bio identifies him as working on Tesla’s AI and robotaxi efforts, replied to a Tesla owner whose glowing review of FSD v14.3.10 came with two pointed complaints: “@fnthawar @Tesla_AI @Tesla Improvements on both are coming.”

Shopify VP and Head of Engineering Farhan Thawar praised FSD v14.3.10 on his 2026 Tesla, writing that it feels like having a driver who drives him around. He also raised two remaining concerns. The first was potholes, which he said the car still hits hard, sometimes hard enough to knock it out of FSD mode. The second was navigation, which he criticized for poor maps, no route learning and inefficient detours.

Duan responded directly to those complaints, writing, “@fnthawar @Tesla_AI @Tesla Improvements on both are coming.”

For owners, pothole handling and navigation remain important parts of the everyday FSD experience. A hard impact on a rough road or an unnecessary detour can quickly undermine confidence in how smoothly the system handles routine driving.

The feedback comes as Tesla continues refining FSD through frequent software releases. Elon Musk previously told owners FSD would soon steer around potholes. More recent updates have continued expanding the system’s capabilities, with FSD v14.3.9 adding Automatic Collision Evasion on highways, followed by FSD v14.3.10 rolling out with those collision evasion notes intact. Tesla has also been bringing FSD v14 to older Hardware 3 vehicles through FSD v14 Lite.

The next v14 release notes will be worth watching for any mention of pothole avoidance, navigation improvements or route learning, which would show how quickly Tesla is addressing the issues Thawar raised.
