Tesla quietly revised the Model Y L owner’s manual figures for overall height and ground clearance, trimming the published numbers by 3 to 4 millimeters from the April edition, according to an exclusive follow-up from @Tslachan.
In the April version cited by @Tslachan, overall height was 1,668 mm, minimum ground clearance when loaded was 122 mm, and minimum ground clearance when unladen was 169 mm. The latest manual figures drop those to 1,664 mm, 118 mm, and 166 mm. Tesla’s current U.S. Model Y Owner’s Manual Dimensions page for the Model Y L six-seater now lists the same 1,664 / 118 / 166 millimeter set, matching the revised table.
The change lands against a backdrop of Chinese Model Y L owners reporting rear suspension sag after long trips or heavy loads, with the gap between the rear tire and wheel arch looking tighter than expected. @Tslachan framed the manual edit as a follow-up to those rear suspension complaints. A paperwork change does not by itself prove a hardware fix, a recall, or a design confession. It does mean the published ride-height envelope for the longer, heavier three-row Model Y is now a few millimeters lower than April’s book.
For buyers comparing the Model Y L to the standard Model Y, the practical takeaway is simple: use the latest manual numbers for garage, curb, and load planning, and treat the April sheet as outdated. Tesla has not issued a separate public explanation tying the dimension edit to the China suspension reports.
