Starlink has started emailing small-boat owners a new Personal Maritime plan that costs $185 a month and keeps unlimited data in territorial waters worldwide without the 30-day Roam travel limit.
The email says the plan is for people who use Starlink on a vessel and stay on the water for extended periods before returning home. Ocean Mode is available beyond 12 nautical miles at $6 per gigabyte. The 30-day international travel cap that hit Roam users does not apply, except in rare cases required by local regulations.
Starlink is limiting Personal Maritime to small personal vessels. Yachts, ferries, and commercially operated boats, including commercial fishing vessels, are out, and the service is not intended for use on land. The company’s terms also bar watercraft longer than 40 feet overall.
Customers who want to switch have to send the vessel’s name, flag state, length overall, a unique ID such as an MMSI or hull number, and a copy of the registration certificate. Starlink has not listed the plan on its public maritime shop page, and the emails are going to selected eligible accounts.
That cheaper path undercuts the older commercial maritime stack, which used to start around $250 a month when Starlink opened the service to boats of all sizes. It sits beside this week’s Vermilion Parish home-plan cut and the 10-year UAE satellite licence as another consumer-facing Starlink move, this one aimed at cruisers who hop countries.
Starlink has not said when Personal Maritime will show up for anyone who did not get the email.
