Starlink said on August 27 it is cutting Residential service plans 50% for new and existing customers in the Vermilion Parish area of Louisiana, as SpaceX invests in a new Gulf Coast spaceport.
The official account wrote that SpaceX is building a new spaceport on Louisiana’s Gulf Coast and is offering neighbors in the Vermilion Parish area a 50% discount on Starlink Residential service plans. Elon Musk quoted the post the same day.
“Half price Starlink for anyone in the neighborhood of Starbase Louisiana,” Musk wrote, linking the cut to the Starbase Louisiana spaceport SpaceX unveiled for Vermilion Parish.
The official offer page names it a Vermilion Parish Area Discount. It says the cut is half the standard monthly price, applied automatically, and that new Residential customers pay no upfront hardware cost. Eligibility is based only on the service address. The page asks customers to enter that address to see if it sits in the eligible zone shown on the map.
No action is required to redeem it, because the discount shows up on the next bill and continues as long as that address stays inside the zone. Starlink may stop offering the discount to new customers at any time. If it ends for customers already receiving it, the company will give at least six months’ notice, and a move outside the eligible area drops the cut from future bills. Friends and family nearby may qualify for the same area discount, with a referral reward redeemable as cash or service credit.
