Tesla Unveils 2026 Spring Update with ‘Hey Grok’ and More: Here’s Everything New
Tesla has officially announced its 2026 Spring Update, bringing a massive list of software improvements to vehicles worldwide. The update focuses heavily on personalization, enhanced safety, and deeper integration with Tesla’s “Grok” AI assistant.
Hands-Free Help and Smart Reminders
The biggest change for drivers is the introduction of “Hey Grok.” Drivers can now wake the onboard AI assistant with a simple voice command. Beyond basic car controls, Grok now handles location-based reminders. You can tell your Tesla, “Remind me to pick up milk when I’m near home,” and the car will alert you once you reach your neighborhood.
A New Look for Model S and X
For those who want their digital car to match their real one, Model S and X owners can now customize their in-car avatar. The update allows you to add window tints, custom wraps, and even personalized license plates to the car’s visualization on the touchscreen.
Safety and Sound Upgrades
Safety gets a boost with a new use for the interior accent lighting. On supported models, the lights will now flash red if you signal a lane change while an object is in your blind spot. Additionally, a new Immersive Sound mode for the latest Model 3 and Model Y uses advanced audio processing to create a more detailed soundstage for music and podcasts.
The full list of features in the 2026 Spring Update includes:
-
Self-Driving App: A dedicated app for AI4 hardware owners to manage subscriptions and view driving stats.
-
“Hey Grok”: Voice activation for the AI assistant and location-based reminders.
-
Custom Pet Mode: You can now choose between dog, cat, or hedgehog icons and add your pet’s name to the screen.
-
Enhanced Visuals: High-quality park scene environments for the new Model 3 and Model Y.
-
Trip Stats: The ability to track multiple trips and swipe on the media player to see energy consumption instantly.
-
Sketchpad Updates: Support for stickers and emojis, with the ability to share drawings to the Tesla mobile app.
-
Weather Maps: Improved colors for rain and snow, plus a playback feature to see how weather has moved over the last hour.
-
Dashcam Storage: Recent footage now extends to 24 hours, with an easier way to save permanent clips.
-
Rear Screen Maps: Passengers in the back can now interact with the navigation map on their own display.
-
Auto-Install: A new setting allows the car to automatically install downloaded updates overnight while it’s parked.
The update also includes small quality-of-life tweaks for Apple Music and Spotify, allowing users to swipe on tracks to add them to their queue or favorites. Tesla says the update will begin rolling out to the global fleet shortly.
This is a super exciting update for new Tesla owners. Sadly, it seems most of these updates will only benefit those with Hardware 4 (HW4) computers and the latest interior upgrades such as ambient lighting and rear displays.
