Tesla Opening Palo Alto Office to Recruit Local Talent: Report

Tesla appears to be opening a new 97,440-square-foot office in Palo Alto, California that could be related to initiatives to beef up its software and AI engineer recruiting, according to a report from Nikkei.

The publication recently spotted a small Tesla sign at 3000 Hanover St. and is located in the Standford University Research Park. Nikkei has confirmed with the real estate company that owns the associated building to confirm the automaker’s letter of intent to rent the commercial space.

As of the end of January, the real estate company had yet to come to a deal on the contract. The building as a whole is over 550,000 square feet with two floors of space, and was previously home to Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Nikkei says Tesla apparently plans to rent nearly 320,000 sq ft of space.

Reports from 2021 also showed Tesla’s plans to rent a 325,000-square-foot office space in Palo Alto, located at 1501 Page Mill Road — also in the Stanford Research Park. The move came despite the automaker starting to move its official headquarters to Austin, Texas just days earlier.

The news also comes as Tesla is hiring for countless software and AI positions on its careers page, the vast majority of which are located in Palo Alto.
