Tesla’s all-electric Model Y crossover ranked fourth in global car sales for 2022 by volume, according to a report from Focus2Move (via @1stPrincipleInv).

The Model Y electric vehicle (EV) sold 759,000 units across the globe in 2022, up a whopping 88% year-over-year. By revenue, though, the Model Y topped global car sales to become 2022’s #1 best-selling car — a milestone Tesla CEO Elon Musk said during the company’s 2022 annual shareholder meeting it was on track to achieving.

The Model Y beat dozens upon dozens of gas-powered vehicles on 2022’s top 100 best-selling cars list. It trailed slightly behind the Ford F-Series, which sold 787,000 units in the year, and was the highest-ranked EV on the list.

Toyota’s Corolla and RAV4 vehicles took first and second place, respectively, with 1.12 million and 870,000 units sold in 2022. It’s also worth noting that while the top three most-sold vehicles in 2022 saw their shipments decline from the previous year, the Model Y experienced a massive surge.

Back in 2021, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the Model Y should eventually become the “best-selling vehicle of any kind globally.” Going by the staggering sales growth the EV has displayed, that could soon happen.

Tesla’s Model 3, meanwhile, came in at a respectable seventh place with 596,000 units sold (up 4% year-over-year).

Demand for Tesla’s EVs is ballooning even further, thanks to the significant price cuts the company recently rolled out for the Model 3, Model Y, and more in the U.S., Canada, Europe, China, and beyond.
