After reports of Tesla’s revamped Model 3 design, codenamed “Highland,” surfaced last week, the automaker is officially making arrangements to start producing the vehicle.

Tesla is preparing its Fremont Gigafactory to begin producing the refreshed Model 3 design, as shown in multiple filings for revisions spotted by Teslarati.

The filings show that Tesla’s General Assembly for the Model 3, which it calls GA3, is now set to be reorganized over the course of the next several months.

Tesla also applied to build temporary tent units for housing the Model 3 body for fitting and light repairs between now and May 1, 2023. The estimated cost for the tent project is around $20,000.

Another filing shows that Tesla plans to demolish its current brake and roll equipment on each of the Model 3 lines, and the company is seeking temporary floor coverings to go above equipment storage pits. This project will oversee all electrical and mechanical utilities being demolished, costing a total of around $75,000.

The shift to a refreshed Model 3 design was originally reported by Reuters, and Tesla is looking to simplify the interior design of the car to use fewer overall components and to cut costs.

A Tesla Model 3 with the front and rear covered in camouflage was spotted earlier this week in Santa Cruz, California, thought by some to be a prototype of the new Highland Model 3.
