Tesla insurance is now available for owners in Minnesota, as can be seen on Tesla’s insurance support web page (via Reddit).

One user on the Reddit thread shared that, with a safety score of 90, they were offered a $135-per-month premium for Tesla insurance that covers $100,000/$300,000 in injuries, $50,000 on property and $100,000/$300,000 on uninsured motorists.

The user also pointed out that they’re able to get cheaper insurance through State Farm in Minnesota, while another user noted that Minnesota has low car insurance rates compared to some states such as Texas or Michigan.

The news comes after Tesla’s real-time behavior-based insurance hit Utah and Maryland in July, after expanding to Nevada in June and Oregon, Virginia and Colorado in April.

Tesla Insurance is currently available to Tesla owners in the following 12 states:

  • Arizona
  • California*
  • Colorado
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Minnesota
  • Nevada
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Virginia

*Insurance using real-time driving behavior is not available in California.

Although Tesla insurance is available in California, the service can’t use real-time safety score and behavior data to determine rates, due to laws in the state. Instead, Tesla launched the safety score feature for California owners for purely “educational purposes.”

Tesla also said it plans to launch in Europe after a wider U.S. rollout, according to an announcement from the company in January.

An app update deployed in August now lets users see how many miles they’ve driven on Tesla insurance and the automaker’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta.
