A new export record was set by Tesla’s Shanghai factory in October, marking a strong entry into the final quarter of the year.

Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai exported a record number of 54,504 vehicles in October, delivering just 17,200 to local customers, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) in a report from CnEVPost.

Typically, Tesla exports most of its units heading out of the country in the first half of every quarter, before prioritizing local deliveries in the second half.

Tesla’s total Shanghai-built deliveries amounted to 71,704 units in October, up 34.03 percent from a year ago and up 887.03 percent from its 5,522 exports in September.

CEO Elon Musk emphasized the automaker’s quarterly delivery structure on Weibo in August, noting that “Tesla makes cars for export in first half of quarter & for local market in second half.”

Tesla’s October sales landed the U.S. automaker the second spot in best-selling leaderboards, following only the Chinese BYD which had 217,518 new energy sales in the same month.

Tesla also boosted incentives offered to buyers that purchase EVs with the company’s insurance partners for November, likely to help increase its yearly sales before the final month of the year.

Earlier this month, Tesla also debuted the Model S and X in China making the company’s full lineup now available in the country.
