2023 Tesla Model Y Production Started This Week, Available as Existing Inventory

Tesla has started production on the 2023 Model Y, which began on October 16, according to the automated Twitter account @WaitingForTesla.com.

This marks an earlier start compared to last year for the Model Y (and Model 3), when the transition from 2021 to 2022 vehicles started on November 2, 2021.

The Twitter account uses a bot to track when the automaker releases newly available models of Tesla’s vehicles, and when the automaker switches from one model year to the next. Specifically we get real-time updates of existing Tesla vehicle inventory, which at the moment is showing 2023 Model 3 vehicles in select areas.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, the account notes that Tesla has switched to the 2023 model year for the Model Y, also adding that the 2023 Model 3 began production between October 2 and 5.

The account also followed up with a build date analysis sheet, as well as examples of the earliest-built Model Y and Model 3 units the platform has tracked.

What’s new in the 2023 Tesla Model Y? We know ultrasonic sensors are disappearing, but recently in China, it was revealed rear seats would be longer by 30mm, while a new easier to remove cover will be available to access the rear door emergency exit latch.

The news comes about a month after Tesla surpassed 10,000 Model Y vehicles built at its new Giga Texas facility, with the vehicles also being built at the company’s Fremont, California factory.
