Tesla Delivered 77,163 Vehicles in China in September

Tesla delivered 77,136 vehicles in China in September, representing the second-most vehicles delivered in a single month in the country, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released on Tuesday (via CnEVPost).

In the same month, Tesla sold 83,135 of its vehicles built at Gigafactory Shanghai, 5,522 of which were dedicated exports.

The month marks Tesla’s second-most vehicles sold in China in a month, just behind June’s total of 77,938 vehicles delivered.

According to the CPCA data, Tesla sold 51,802 wholesale units in September, leaving Model 3 wholesale units sold at 31,333.

Both wholesale figures also include data for exports, which are set to be detailed in the next CPCA report.

September’s new-energy vehicle sales amounted to 611,000 units across the industry, with Tesla taking a 12.7 percent market share — marking a 2.9 percent drop year over year as new competition hits the market.

Tesla currently makes vehicles for export at the beginning of each quarter, while it prioritizes local deliveries in the second half of each quarter, as has been stated by CEO Elon Musk.

Musk has also said that Tesla plans to do away with this model and it hopes to smooth out deliveries throughout each quarter.

The news also comes as Tesla seemingly prepares to launch the Model S and X in China, with both vehicles now being listed under the country’s tax exemption catalog.
