Tesla Sales in China Hit Record 83,135 in September: CPCA
Tesla sold an all-time high of 83,135 China-made electric vehicles (EVs) in September, beating its previous record of 78,906 units from earlier this year in June — reports CnEVPost.
The numbers come from data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on Sunday.
September sales of Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai-made vehicles represent a year-over-year increase of 48.44% from September 2021 and a month-over-month increase of 8.02%. Tesla China sold almost 77,000 EVs in August.
Giga Shanghai currently only produces the Model 3 and Model Y, the latter of which has been China’s best-selling high-end SUV in the over RMB 300,000 ($42,150) price bracket for several months.
Tesla currently sells two different trims of the Model 3 and three versions of the Model Y in China. Earlier this month, Tesla increased delivery wait times for all models except the entry-level Model Y Real-Wheel Drive in China.
The move followed several previous delivery timeline changes in China that actually cut wait times down significantly. For some models, Tesla had managed to bring delivery times down to just 1-4 weeks.
Tesla China recently also announced several EV purchase benefits for customers, including an RMB 7,000 subsidy on vehicle insurance from Tesla’s partner insurance agencies, zero down payment financing leases, and preferential loan rates.
