Tesla Removes $20,000 Model S Plaid Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit from Website [Update]

In November 2021, Tesla debuted a Model S Plaid Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit for a cool $20,000 USD. It was slated to arrive by mid-2022 but it has since been removed from the company’s website, as Tesla North can confirm on Thursday afternoon.

This accessory for the Model S Plaid steps up braking power for those seeking to take their sedans to the track. “Designed for the ultimate track experience, the Model S Plaid Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit is a complete hardware package that delivers maximum, repeatable stopping power during high-performance driving,” described Tesla.

The kid included all-new carbon-silicon carbide rotors that provide maximum high-temperature durability and heat management, one-piece forged calipers with high-performance pads and high-temperature brake fluid.

The Model S Plaid has been criticized by some for having underwhelming stopping power, despite being one of the fastest cars on the planet.

The kit (now showing a dead 404 link) included the following:

  • 2x 410 x 40mm carbon-silicon carbide front rotors
  • 2x 410 x 32mm carbon-silicon carbide rear rotors
  • 2x 6-piston one-piece, forged front calipers
  • 2x 4-piston one-piece, forged rear calipers
  • 2x integrated, caliper-mounted parking brakes
  • 4x high-performance front brake pads
  • 4x high-performance rear brake pads
  • 1x bottle of high-temperature brake fluid

Tesla said the carbon ceramic brake kit is only available for Model S Plaid vehicles with 21” Arachnid wheels.

It’s unclear why Tesla removed this brake package for the Model S Plaid. So far we have yet to see the kit installed on Model S Plaid vehicles as it has never materialized. There are other third-party alternatives such as ceramic brake kits from Unplugged Performance.

Update Oct. 6, 3:55pm PT: We received a notification the ceramic brake kit was back in the store. But the URL still shows a “404”. However, the Tesla website shows a thumbnail of the kit, seen below–but it points to the “404” dead link:
