Tesla’s Preferred Location Rejected in South Windsor, Connecticut
South Windsor’s Planning and Zoning Commission rejected a Tesla proposal for a showroom and service center, instead suggesting another location for the automaker, according to a report from the Hartford Courant.
Town planners claim the Tesla site, proposed at Buckland Road, is at the wrong location, suggesting the automaker should instead build at a site in South Windsor.
However, Tesla already rejected the South Windsor location, which isn’t near dealerships clustered along busy roads, unlike the Buckland Road site.
Denver real estate developer John Hauser said that Tesla plans to scout other towns in response to the news, adding that Tesla wanted the Buckland Road location for its proximity to other businesses in the area.

Hauser also called Tesla an “evolving green energy company” in an appeal to the city, saying the move to install the Tesla location could benefit Tesla more than other companies, “and not Ford and Chevy.”
In a statement, Hauser said, “I appreciate the fact that whether I did a poor job of explaining or whether you just don’t accept the fact we’re not a traditional car dealership there’s nothing I can do about that.”
Tesla has struggled to sell its vehicles in Connecticut, where laws oppose the automakers’ direct-sales model.
