Tesla Tweaks Homelink Button Labels in 2022.20.5 Update

As Tesla’s new updates roll out, most of its changes are documented in the release notes of each version, though a few small things may also get changed without the automaker notifying drivers.

A few changes in Tesla’s software update 2022.20.5 were not documented, including an update to the Homelink button text, as detailed by Not a Tesla App.

According to SparkyTX from the TMC forums, they noticed this change on the weekend with their 2022.20.5 update. The custom Homelink button labels are now moved to the bottom, showing smaller light grey text. All three main buttons just read ‘activate’. It doesn’t seem to be a good design choice.

“I just had 2022.20.5 installed and noticed it changed my Homelink button labels. Now all the buttons are labeled “Activate” as opposed to the label names I assigned them. The label names now appear is much smaller gray text under the button (see attached photo). So now you have to look very closely to see the button label. Granted I should have them memorized but the seems to be a very stupid change to something that was working. This change would be analogous to labeling every key on a computer keyboard “Type” and putting the letter or symbol as a tiny dim label on the side of the key. This is NOT good user interface design. I’m not sure what problem they are fixing by changing a button to say “Activate”, said the Tesla owner.

Homelink modules can be purchased from Tesla for $350 USD, to bring automatic garage door opening to your vehicle.

Also new when 2022.20 first debuted was bringing back your battery level and expected range to your estimated time of arrival, front and center, instead of hiding it in the menus.

Tesla began rolling out its software update 2022.20.5 earlier this month, complete with multiplayer gaming controller support through Bluetooth as well as improved monitoring for driver attentiveness.

The latest software update is also highly localized depending on rules and regulations in certain areas, such as in the UK, where vehicles are now recognizing variable speed limit signs.

Tesla also added voice navigation options in Poland and Turkish in the new software update, in addition to a handful of Autopilot improvements.

CEO Elon Musk says Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta 10.13 is set to come next week, with FSD beta 11.0 “hopefully” coming in August.
