Tesla Continues Model Y 4680 Cell Testing at Giga Texas [VIDEO]
A new 4K drone video shared by Jeff Roberts on Thursday shows some of Tesla’s crew continuing its work on 4680 battery cell charging testing at Gigafactory Texas.
An earlier video by Roberts showed these same Model Y vehicles charging at Superchargers on the Giga Texas site. Papers on the vehicle dashboard noted the vehicles were not to be moved as they were undergoing testing. These same Model Y vehicle remain in these charging spots.
The flyover goes around the perimeter of Giga Texas, largely showing the outside walls of the main factory area. We also see the outline of the letters “TESLA” with solar panels taking more shape on the roof, with “E”, “S” and “L” clearly visible.
The drone also shows Tesla’s massive parking structure and a handful of surrounding areas on the plot of land that are still being developed.
One lot includes a handful of Tesla Model Y units, likely set to be delivered from the factory in the coming months.
In February, Tesla celebrated the production of its 1 millionth 4680 battery cell at Gigafactory Texas, a hefty milestone as it prepares for the development of the Cybertruck and Semi using the cells in the years to come.
Tesla asked Panasonic to speed up development cycle for the 4680 battery cell earlier this month, depicting just how eager the automaker is to begin using the next-generation cells.
Additionally, Tesla has already delivered one of the first Model Y units with the 4680 battery cell to one of its employees.
