Tesla on Friday shared a picture of its team celebrating the production of its 1 millionth 4680 battery cell, a milestone reached in January.

During Tesla’s Q4 2021 earnings call, the company said it will begin production of its latest 4680 structural battery packs at its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, with Model Y vehicles to include these latest packs, set to be delivered this quarter.

As for Tesla’s upcoming Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg, Model Y vehicles at the plant will start with current 2170 cells for now.

The video above is a supercut of Tesla’s Battery Day event, held in 2020 during COVID-19, unveiling its 4680 structural battery pack. These new cells offer 6x the energy and a 16% range increase and 6x the power. At the time, Tesla said it had already begun a pilot testing production of these new cells at its facility around the corner from its Fremont factory in California.
