Tesla Model 3 Performance ‘Track Mode’ in U.S. to Get Software Fix

Tesla recalled 48,000 Model 3 Performance vehicles in the U.S. over issues with the speedometer while the vehicles are in Track Mode, according to documents released on Friday reported by Reuters.

The recall applies to Model 3 Performance vehicles produced for the 2018 to 2022 model years.

When in Track Mode the vehicles do not display the speedometer correctly, as announced in the documents shared Friday by the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHTSA).

The issue came from a firmware update in December when Tesla accidentally removed the speed unit from the interface, which could cause drivers to become confused about their speed and increase accident risk.

Tesla will release an over-the-air (OTA) software update to fix the issue.

The same issue was spotted in a number of Tesla Model 3 vehicles recalled in China on Friday.

Tesla also issued a recall earlier this month over issues with the Model X front row curtain airbags.

Last month, Tesla recalled 947 of its vehicles due to an issue with the rearview camera.

In December, Tesla issued a recall for 826 Model Y units, due to the front and rear suspension knuckles being vulnerable to fracturing and separation.

Tesla also recalled 158,000 Model S and X units over bricked screens last year.
