New Tesla Service Center Being Considered in Lenexa, Kansas

A new Tesla service center could be coming soon to western Lenexa, Kansas — reports FOX4KC.

The Lenexa Planning Commission on Monday will evaluate a preliminary plan for a Tesla Auto Repair shop on a vacant lot near west 101st Terrace and Lackman Road. The proposal is for KANCO, LLC to build a 35,095-square-foot auto repair center for electric vehicles (EVs) at the location.

The proposed repair center would host 21 service bays, along with multiple additional bays to wash, paint, and repair vehicles inside the building.

Also included in the plans is a fenced and gated on-site parking lot with 113 parking stalls, more than half of which would be secured within an outdoor storage area on the south end of the property. EV owners would enter the proposed site from 101st Terrace.

If approved by the Lenexa Planning Commission, the proposal will still need to be greenlit by the Lenexa City Council before construction can begin. The City Council is due to appraise a final development site plan for the property on Tuesday, April 19, provided the Lenexa Planning Commission clears it first.

A service center may not be all the Tesla presence coming to Kansas in the near future. A report from last month indicated that Tesla partner Panasonic may be looking at building a battery factory in Kansas.

Last month, the town of East Hartford in Connecticut revoked Tesla’s permit for a planned service center after it was challenged in a direct sales lawsuit.

Tesla in February announced two new U.S. service centers — one for Ann Arbor, Michigan, and another in Lubbock, Texas.
